When Linda called us from her home in the Woodlands, she did not mince words: she hated everything about her master bathroom. The dark brown tile on the floor. The builder-grade vanity with chipped laminate countertops. The cramped shower-tub combo that had not been updated since the house was built in 1998. She had been living with it for eight years since buying the home, and she was done.
During the initial consultation, our designer walked through the bathroom with Linda and her husband, taking measurements and listening to what they wanted. The wish list was extensive: a large walk-in shower with a bench, a freestanding tub, a double vanity with plenty of storage, and most importantly, a space that felt bright, open, and modern. It was clear that a partial update would not cut it — this bathroom needed a complete gut renovation.
We started by stripping the room down to the studs. This gave us the opportunity to address some issues that would have been invisible in a surface-level remodel: outdated plumbing connections, insufficient ventilation, and minor water damage around the old tub surround. Once the space was bare, we reconfigured the layout to accommodate Linda's wish list. The old tub-shower combo was replaced with a spacious walk-in shower featuring marble-look porcelain panels, a built-in bench, and a frameless glass enclosure.
The new double vanity features soft-close drawers, quartz countertops, and undermount sinks with brushed nickel fixtures. We added a lighted mirror above each sink and installed recessed medicine cabinets for storage. The flooring was replaced with large-format porcelain tile in a warm gray tone that ties the whole room together. Every material was selected to be both beautiful and practical for Houston's humid environment.
The entire project took about three weeks from demolition to final walkthrough. Linda's reaction when she saw the finished bathroom for the first time was exactly why we do this work. She stood in the doorway for a full minute before stepping in, running her hand along the new countertop and turning the shower on just to watch the water cascade from the rain head. Her exact words: 'I cannot believe this is my house.'
