We should be straight with you about something most companies bidding on your Houston bathroom will not say: we are not headquartered in Houston. Our shop is at 11246 Timber Tech Ln in Tomball, roughly 35 minutes up 249 from the Loop.
We think that is worth stating plainly, because a lot of what looks local in a Houston search is not. Plenty of the companies you will find are national brands running a local phone number, or lead-generation sites that sell your information to whoever is buying that week. We would rather tell you where we actually are and let you weigh it.
What being 35 minutes out means in practice: your consultation, your quote, and your project manager come from the same small company, and the person who measured your bathroom is reachable for the life of the project. What it does not mean is that we are on your street in ten minutes. If that matters more to you than who does the work, hire someone in your zip code — we would rather you be happy than booked.

Local Conditions
What Houston water and soil do to a bathroom
Three physical realities shape bathroom remodeling in Houston, and none of them appear in a national remodeling guide.
Humidity. Outdoor relative humidity here routinely sits above 70 percent for much of the year, which means a Houston bathroom never fully dries out on its own the way one in a drier climate does. This is the single biggest reason grout fails early here, and why we push grout-free wall systems harder in this market than we would elsewhere. It is also why we tell customers their exhaust fan needs to run 20 to 30 minutes after a shower, not the 5 or 10 most people assume.
Post-tension slabs. If your home was built after the mid-1980s, there is a very good chance the foundation contains post-tension cables under tension. Cutting into that slab to relocate a drain is not a routine change order — done carelessly it is a serious safety problem and a structural repair. This is the first thing we check when a Houston customer asks about moving a toilet or a shower drain, and it is covered in detail in our guide to post-tension cables in Houston homes. Older pier-and-beam homes in the Heights and Montrose do not have this constraint, which is why relocating plumbing is often dramatically cheaper in a 1930s bungalow than in a 1995 build.
Cast iron waste lines. Houston homes built roughly between the 1950s and the early 1970s were plumbed with cast iron drain lines that are now at or past the end of their service life. We find deteriorated cast iron behind bathroom walls in Meyerland, Oak Forest and Garden Oaks often enough that we raise it before demo rather than after. It is the most common genuine surprise in a Houston bathroom remodel, and we would rather you hear about the possibility at the quote than see it appear as a change order.
On water: the City of Houston blends surface water from several sources, and depending on which blend reaches your neighborhood, hardness generally lands somewhere in the moderately hard to hard range. It is not as aggressive as the well water north of us, but it is more than enough to leave mineral film on glass and fixtures — another point in favor of surfaces you can wipe rather than scrub.

Permits in Houston
Houston is the most complicated permitting picture in our service area, and it is worth understanding before you get quotes.
A Houston mailing address does not tell you which authority governs your project. Your home may sit inside the City of Houston, in unincorporated Harris County, or inside one of the small incorporated cities that Houston wraps around — Bellaire, West University Place, Southside Place, and the Memorial Villages among them. Several of those have their own permitting departments with requirements meaningfully stricter than the City of Houston's, and a contractor who assumes otherwise will get it wrong.
As a general matter, work that stays within the existing footprint is less likely to require a permit than work that moves drains, relocates fixtures, alters framing, or adds electrical circuits. That is a rule of thumb and not a determination for your address.
Our policy is the same everywhere we work: we do not pull permits by default and we do not verify permit requirements on your behalf unless you ask us to. Raise it at your consultation and we will pull the permit and price it into the quote rather than surfacing it mid-project. Where a job involves extensive or complex electrical or plumbing work, we bring in licensed electricians and plumbers for that portion.
One Houston-specific note: the city has no zoning, but most neighborhoods carry deed restrictions and many have active civic associations. Deed restrictions rarely affect interior bathroom work, but if your project touches anything visible from the street, check them.

Why does grout keep failing in my Houston bathroom?
Humidity. Outdoor relative humidity here sits above 70 percent much of the year, so a Houston bathroom never fully dries out between uses. Grout is porous and mold establishes in it. Running the exhaust fan 20 to 30 minutes after every shower helps considerably, but the permanent fix is eliminating the grout — a solid surface or acrylic wall system has no joints for mold to take hold in.
Does EZ Bath install tub liners or one-day overlays?
No. We do not install tub liners and we will not market a surface overlay as a remodel. Covering a compromised substrate hides the problem instead of fixing it, and in a climate this humid the problem underneath rarely stays put. We do full tub replacements and grout-free acrylic wall surrounds over a sound existing tub.
