Advice from Our Installations
Bath Concepts vs. Onyx vs. Tile
How we choose shower materials—and the tradeoffs we explain during your consultation.
Our Starting Recommendation
For most customers, we recommend Bath Concepts high-tech polymer first. We like its appearance, quality, ease of cleaning and manufacturer lifetime warranty. Onyx is our second recommendation. If you prefer tile, we build with a Schluter/Kerdi waterproofing system.
This is EZ Bath’s recommendation based on the products we install. Your layout and preferred look still matter, and every choice has a drawback.
| Material | Why we use it | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Bath Concepts high-tech polymer Our first recommendation | Appearance, quality and easy cleaning, backed by a manufacturer lifetime warranty. | A defined selection of colors and patterns; fewer design choices than tile. |
| Onyx Our second recommendation | An alternative for shower walls and custom bases when its available styles and shapes suit the project. | Design choices are also limited to the manufacturer’s available options. |
| Tile with Schluter/Kerdi For customers who prefer tile | Useful when the design calls for tile, including a tile base combined with polymer walls. | Longer installation, higher cost to build correctly and different warranty coverage from polymer or Onyx. |
You Can Combine Materials
A large remodel in The Woodlands combined a zero-threshold tile base with high-tech polymer shower walls, a freestanding tub, light-green cabinets and new flooring. The completed project cost approximately $42,000.
In a Houston bathroom, we used white subway-pattern polymer walls with a custom-shaped Onyx pan and bench. Removing a closet let us move the vanity and make room for a larger shower. That remodel, including a freestanding tub, flooring and painting, cost approximately $35,000.
Look Beyond the Wall Finish
During demolition, we often find mold behind tile, damaged studs or plumbing that needs to move. The finished surface is only one part of the job. We address that hidden repair work without an additional homeowner charge. If active termites are found, work stops while the homeowner arranges and pays for a pest-control service.
Allow Time for Custom Materials
Custom materials typically take 8–11 weeks to arrive after ordering. Once they are in, our office calls to schedule installation. We use about one week of installation per $10,000 of project scope as a planning rule, with your actual schedule confirmed by the designer. Custom glass typically follows 7–10 days after the shower is complete.
Compare Warranty Terms
EZ Bath’s labor and installation warranty lasts two years. Most products carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty, but the product’s written terms determine coverage. Tile-system coverage differs from polymer and Onyx coverage. Ask to see the documents for the specific products in your quote.
